Block 1 - Pattern #2 - Seam treatment 6

Pattern #2
Seam that joins piece #4 to pieces #3, #2 and #1

Threads used:
Perle #8
Nymo beading thread

Stitches used:
Zigzag chain
Single bead stitch
Lazy daisy - extended

Spider
2 beads - one larger than the other
Nymo beading thread
Black/gold Metallic thread

1. I wanted a very strong, simple seam treatment under the button cluster and flower sprig. Zigzag chain with a Perle #8 is perfect, I thought. This stitch is not as easy as looks, be gentle with yourself!

2.  Zigzag chain is notorious for rolling over and not staying where it should. Be the boss of it and simply stitch a bead down on one side catching the tip of the chain to keep it in place.

3. On the opposite side of the zigzag chain add two lazy daisy stitches but extend the anchoring stitch.

                                                                   The Spider

Let's create a spider!!!
Spider -  FOOLPROOF CRAZY QUILTING - page 89

1. The beads I chose for my spider are two different size pearl beads - seeing that there is a bit of a pearl thing happening on my work!
Stitch the beads in place allowing lots of room for the long legs of the spider - I have a thing about my spiders having LOOOONG legs.

2. Now for the legs - (using a stab stitch and a metallic thread) start away from the spider, working towards it make a longish straight stitch.

3.  Another straight to completes the first leg.

4. Continue working in this way to create the legs. You may notice small needle marks visible in the fabric - that is the way I eyeball where the legs should be.

5. Notice, too, that all the stab stitches are coming into one point between the two beads.

6. Complete one side of the spider - or you can leave it as is; a side view.

7. Nearly done.....................

8. VOILA! One glamorous spider sitting on your work.

So that means we have one more seam treatment to do and our first block is done!

If you are still working along with me, Well done!
See you on Wednesday.
