Block 2 - Pattern #2 - Seam treatment #1

Pattern #2
Seam that joins piece #5 to pieces #3, #1 and #2

Threads used:
Perle #8
Nymo thread
Single strand of stranded cotton
Small round bead
Small seed beads

Stitches used:
Single bead stitch
Beaded rounded petal
Straight stitch

We are onto our second block - the seam we are working on today is on the top right ( seam 5 which joins with seams 1,2, 3)

We will be working with beads today and just like buttons they are powerful little things. So take time choosing the suitable colour AND size..............

1. Once again follow the rule of thirds and position your first flower off center.
It is important to secure the center bead first and then work around to create the petals.

2. Create two more flowers (or as many as you like). I made the first flower's petals slightly smaller than the other two - simply use less beads to change the size of the petals. Because beading is very powerful do not create a rhythm on your seam - by this I mean NOT placing the flowers neatly in a row and evenly spaced. Mess it up a bit!

3. To soften the beading add a few stems using a straight stitch or stem stitch and a Perle #8 thread. My squares are small so I decided to go with straight stitch instead of stem stitch. The straight stitch will appear finer in my small area.

4. To create movement stitch down a few beads to form little buds at the end of the stems.

5. To soften further, use a single strand of stranded cotton to add a twig effect to the stem. Remember to make these stab stitches nice and long and no rhythm here either!!

Till next time.
