Block 1 - Pattern #2 - seam treatment 3

Pattern #2
Seam treatment for seam that joins piece #6 to pieces #2 and # 4

Threads used:
Perle #8 or 6 strand of stranded cotton
Nymo beading thread for beading
4mm silk ribbon

Stitches used:
Open blanket stitch
Lazy daisy
Single bead stitch
Colonial or French knot
Straight stitch

Apologies for the wonky looking stitches in the beginning - I was photographing the work out of the hoop!

1. Begin with a Perle #8 and stitch along the seam with an open blanket stitch.
See the end of this post for a quick tutorial on open blanket stitch.

2. Next add straight stitches (Perle #8) on either side of the open blanket stitch.

3. Add a bead (Nymo thread) alternating with a lazy daisy (4mm silk ribbon or 6 stands of stranded cotton) in V's of  the open blanket stitch. If you do not have beads simply use another colour thread and alternate along the seam.

4. Using a  Milliner's needle stitch a colonial knot above the bead - not touching, slightly above the bead.

For those of you who do not know how to do a colonial knot a two wrap French knot will work too.

5. Lastly stitch a bead to the top of the lazy daisy - this time the bead will touch the tip of the lazy daisy.

And there you go, another seam treatment done!
Till next time.

A quick tutorial of open Blanket stitch.

                              1. This is what an ordinary blanket stitch looks like.

                              2. To open a blanket stitch  simply angle the stitch to the left.

3. Then to the right.

4. Continue along the length of the seam.
