Join me!

I didn't realize how much I would miss teaching crazy quilting and creative embroidery. I am so fortunate to teach about 15 classes a month and also to travel and teach workshops throughout the year. The situation the world finds itself has changed all that for the moment.
The women in my workshops are more than just "students" and I miss their company in so many ways. A  large number have been coming to my classes for years ( 10 years or more), so the classes are more than just the stitches and the glorious work that is created. We share our joys and also our sorrows, we laugh (oh, how we laugh), we cry too. We are a tribe!

Quite a few of us felt a hankering to go back to crazy quilting and that is what I have decided to attempt to do on my blog.
Each tutorial will include step by step information on the building up of a seam treatment from the initial naked first stitch to the last glorious flourish!
I will attempt to offer you alternatives if you do not have a bead or button etc at your disposal. There is, after all, a solution to everything.
It will follow the same structure as my workshops - information will be supplied on a need to know basis as not to overwhelm and I will throw in a few handy tips as we go.

I have a "start where you are and use what you have"  approach to my own work and that of my students in my workshops. It is not always necessary to purchase hundreds of threads, beads etc to create wonderful crazy quilting. I think that there is a great challenge in working with what you have on hand.
It is this same approach that I am going to use when it comes to teaching crazy quilting on this platform. I do not profess to be a computer or photographic wiz, but I am going to start with the skills I have and, who knows, by the end of this I may even learn how to film and edit my own videos! Watch this space!

DISCLAIMER -  I am in no way claiming that my style is correct and all others are wrong: my style of crazy quilting is simply my own interpretation of this beautiful craft. Crazy quilting is always something that I have done for myself and by myself, its a place I go to.

You will notice that I do not use lace or motifs in my work, not that I have an aversion to them, I simply prefer to use stitches to embellish my seams.  If you chose to work with my tutorials please feel free to put your stamp onto your work. My goal is to give you a starting point; a gentle push!

During these tutorials I will be working on small 6" squares (see image below). If you would like a copy of the patterns please make contact me via email and I will send them to you. However, because I will be working seam by seam, you will be able to apply these seam treatments to any projects that are you are currently working on.

To make it easier for those of you who have my books,  I will be adding the page reference to the stitches in the tutorials. However, I am sure that there are many other resources available to you and you do not necessarily need my books to join in the fun.
The next post will include information on the needles, fabrics etc AND the first seam treatment tutorial.
I hope you will join me!

  9. I'm joining the party late, but then that's not unusual for me. I would love to have the block patterns if they are still available. Can't seem to find an email as to where to send a request. Saw it yesterday but I guess I've slept since then. Hope to be catching up soon. Phyllis ptl1957@hotmail.com
