Block #6 - pattern #3

My life has got a lot busier as we have come out of isolation - which is soooooo great! - hence the late post.
This is a long post as all the seam treatments for block #6 are in this one post.
So,  here goes.

Seam that joins piece #4 to pieces #1 and #2

                                                        Threads used:
                                                            Perle #8
                                                          4mm silk ribbon
                                                         7mm silk ribbon
                                                         Nymo beading thread
                                                          Seed beads
                                                         Small sequins

                                                 Stitches used:
                                                      Feather stitch
                                                       Colonial knots
                                                       Ribbon stitch
                                                       Single bead stitch

 1. With a Perle #8 and feather stitch create a meandering branch along the seam. Note that the feather stitch is irregular.

2. Next add a few branches of more feather stitches.

3. With a variegated 4mm silk ribbon form little shapes that resembles bunches of grapes. If you do not have a variegated ribbon simply use 2 or 3 different shades of one color. There are gaps between the "grapes" as I plan to add a few beads later.

4. Add some luscious ribbon stitch leaves in 7mm silk ribbon.

5. Scatter a few small sequins on the ends of some of the feather stitch arms. Because these sequins are so small I have simply couched them down with Nymo thread.

Chain feather stitch - FOOLPROOF CRAZY QUILTING - page71

2. Add straight stitches to the end of the chain feather.

Straight stitch - FOOLPROOF CRAZY QUILTING - page 73

3. Between the straight stitches add more in another colour or thickness.
I did not know what color thread to use - so, I auditioned a few and still could not make my mind up. So, I will leave that  decision until the blocks are joined together. I often do this when I am unsure of a color.

Attach a small bead to the base of the straight stitches.

Seam that joins pieces #6 and #7

                                                            7mm silk ribbon
                                                            4mm silk ribbon
                                                             Perle #8
                                                            Nymo beading thread

                                                        Stitches used:
                                                         Loop stitch flower
                                                              Lazy daisy
                                                             Straight stitch
                                                          Single bead stitch.

**** Please note that I have added straight stitch twigs to the chain feather stitch on the seam treatment to the left of this seam ******

1. Using the rule of thirds place the large flower (7mm silk ribbon) on the seam and then the two half flowers.

2. Next, starting from the large flower, scatter a few lazy daisy leaves in 4mm silk ribbon.

Lazy daisy -  FOOLPROOF CRAZY QUILTING - page 72

3. Once again, starting at the large flower, create twigs using a Perle #8 and straight stitches. This will connect the leaves and flowers.

Straight stitch - FOOLPROOF CRAZY QUILTING - page 73

4. Add lazy daisy leaves in Perle #8.

Lazy daisy -  FOOLPROOF CRAZY QUILTING - page 72

5. It's time for a few small beads to tie this seam treatment together.

Seam that joins pieces #1 and #2

                                                    Threads used:
                                                               Perle #8
                                                       Nymo beading thread
                                                             Seed bead
                                                          Small sequin

                                                      Stitches used:
                                                          Blanket stitch
                                                          Straight stitch
                                                           Beaded sequin

****I broke my rule with this seam treatment. I always like to complete my blocks by working the seam treatment right next to the one I have just done. Does this make sense????? In that way I can see how the seam relate to each other - I like to have create contrasts ie. a curved treatment next to a straight one.
Just ignore the fact that you have not yet done the Cretan stitch on the right on this photo. Do this seam first!!!!!!! ******

1. Cover the seam with an uneven blanket stitch in a Perle #8

2. Then add a few beaded sequins

Beaded sequins - FOOLPROOF CRAZY QUILTING - page 83

3. Straight stitches under the sequins form little leaves.

I might add more to this seam at a later stage - I will keep you updated.

                                                 Stitches used:

4. Using a 7mm silk ribbon create ruched roses on every alternate leg of the Cretan stitches.

                        -----------------------------------------------------------------

That's block #6 done and dusted.

Just a few additions:

*** I added another set of straight stitch stems underneath the knotted couched ribbon.***
*** Beads were added to the grape thingies***
*** Beads were also added to the Cretan and ruched rose seam treatment***

Just a reminder that the small areas that are a little sparse may or may not have bits added to them BUT only when I know the placement of my blocks.

Till next time
Jenny C

PS I apologize for any errors in this post, It was looooong and I had to concentrate for a looooooong time!
