Block #7 - Pattern #1
I am hoping that post finds you all well. We are living through such strange and scary times. Here in Queensland, Australia, things are going really, really well. But I am mindful that this might not be the case for other countries and states. My homeland of South Africa is real cause for concern for me as my elderly parents still live there and things are looking very dire.
It is my wish that these humble tutorials offer you a place of refuge.

When things don't go according to plan.
We all have ideas of stitch and color combinations, but when we actually put them onto our work, they just don't look right. I do not unpick them straight away; I will complete my block and then adjust the seam treatment accordingly.
As I have said before, each seam treatment, in some way, affects the one next to it. This is the reason that I do not unpick until I view the block in it's entirety - I can then see what is wrong with the offending seam treatment and remove JUST what is necessary. Don't throw the baby out with the bath water!
The seam treatment below is a very good example. I really felt that I needed to add a bit of mustard to the block. Also, because the seam treatment next to it is very curvy, I felt that this seam treatment needed to be firm and strong. So, I created this little number!
I knew that the seam treatment was wrong but I left it as is and when the block was complete I could see what was needed to be done.
****This is how I changed the seam treatment ****

2. Add Colonial or French knots to some of the arms of the blanket stitch.
Ribbon stitch in 4mm silk ribbon creates the petals on top of the straight stitches.
Attach beads to the base of the ribbon stitches.
