Block #9 - Pattern #1

We are onto our last block. Apologies for the slow down in the posts - but with the Covid restrictions being lifted here in Queensland, my classes are back on track and I have never been as busy teaching, which is lovely. We also welcomed a new grandchild to our family which is so wonderful AND we can travel interstate to visit our family!!! Oh, happy days!


Block #9 - pattern #1

Seam that joins piece #7 to pieces #4, #2 and #5

Threads used:
Perle #8
Perle #12
Perle #16 (or two strands of floss)
4mm silk ribbon
Nymo beading thread
Seed beads
Small pearl beads
 
Stitches used:
Feather stitch
Beaded pointed petal/leaf
Single bead stitch
Lazy daisy
Straight stitch
Colonial knot

1. With a Perle #8 and a feather stitch ( 4 feather stitches to the left and 4 to the right) create a base for the seam treatment.

2. Form a pair of beaded pointed petals/leaves onto the feather stitch. Add a small pearl bead to the center of the beaded petal

2. Add lazy daisy leaves with 4mm silk ribbon below the petals. Straight stitches with colonial knots form the stamens.

3. Next, create leaves with a fly stitch and a straight stitch between the V of the fly stitch.

13mm organza ribbon
Nymo beading thread
Small flower sequins
Seed beads

Stitch used:
Couched ribbon garland
Beaded sequin
Single bead stitch

Stem stitch
Loop stitch
Colonial knot
Ribbon stitch
Lazy daisy
Straight stitch
Single bead stitch
Fishbone stitch
 
1. With a Perle m#8 and stem stitch create a stem along the seam and then another one to the right of it.
Add loop stitches in a 7mm silk ribbon to the top end of the stem.

2. Next add a few more stems and ribbon stitch leaves in 7mm silk ribbon. Scatter a few lazy daisy leaves 4mm silk ribbon between the loop stitches. And to finish off a colonial knots at the top of the flower.

3. Scatter a few seed beads amongst the loop stitches. Create leaves in Perle #8 in an open fishbone stitch.
Then add twigs in a Perle #12 - straight stitch stem and lazy daisy leaves.

Piece #2

Threads used;
Metallic thread
 
Stitch used:
Straight spider web
 
1. Follow the instructions on page 89 -  FOOLPROOF CRAZY QUILTING

Seam that joins piece # 3 to pieces #5, #2 and #1

Threads used:
4mm silk ribbon
7mm silk ribbon
Perle #8
Nymo beading thread
Small pearl beads
 
Stitches used:
Lazy daisy
Ribbon stitch
Straight stitch
Single bead stitch
 
1. Draw a stem shape along the seam and a second one along the seam that joins pieces #1 and #4.
Then scatter lazy daisy leaves in 4mm silk ribbon along the line.

Add a few more leaves in a different color.

2. Connect the lazy daisy leaves with straight stitches.

3. Complete the seam by adding and extending the branches. Then attach the pearl beads and a few ribbon stitches in 7mm silk ribbon.

And there we have it - NINE blocks all completed. When I get back from visiting family I will go through I join the blocks etc
